Community Outreach
Can you imagine a world without hunger?
The mission of Rise Against Hunger is to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable. They ensure the meals distributed by their partners are used as tools to change lives by promoting education, improving students’ health and nutrition, addressing gender inequalities, stimulating economic growth and fighting child labor. To aid in this mission, Marilla UMC is raising funds to hold a future Meal Packaging Event. The cost is $0.34 per meal and our goal is to pack at least 25,000 meals.
Donations are greatly appreciated!!
Once our Event date is set, we will also need volunteers – so check back with us for future updates.
At our packing event in 2019 we packed over 17,000 meals!
(See some of our “work” pictures below from this year’s campaign that was filled with fun and fellowship for this great cause.
~ Watch for dates in the future so you can join us in supporting this Rise Against Hunger mission next year ~

Outreach to Local Food Pantries
This was our 3rd year collecting for the Alden Marilla Food Pantry and FISH of East Aurora in our food drive which we named “Marilla Cares Food Drive”. This event started in 2015 with the thought from former Rev. Rick Koch at Williston UMC, along with former Pastor Corky Spitler at St. Nicodemus Lutheran Church and Rev. Alice Priset from Marilla UMC. They started this event in hopes to show that Marilla cares for its community. It has been a tradition since, we have opened it up to the area businesses and households.
With everyone’s help we continue to support our local food pantries each year.
Church World Service (CWS) Blankets Program.
Church World Service (CWS) then distributes the purchased blankets to those around the world dealing with disaster or fleeing their homes. Each year thousands of these blankets are distributed and bring a small measure of comfort to those in need.
Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child, a Samaritan’s Purse mission project, has been a recurring church undertaking here at Marilla UMC for the past few years. Through Samaritan’s Purse, a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization that provides physical and spiritual aid to those in neeed around the world, we are working to be like the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) to our young neighbors across the globe. Through this mission, children receive shoebox distributions in places where they may not know Christ or are in at-risk areas such as orphanges, and are invited to learn about and follow Him.
Our 2019 Collection is just beginning. You can pick up a shoebox at church now! Instructions for filling the box are inside each shoebox. We ask that you return the filled boxes to the church by Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019. If you are unable to shop for the shoebox items, we will gladly take donations and do the shopping for you. Our goal this year is to collect 100 boxes!
Over the last 3 years the Marilla UMC has collected and packed nearly 300 boxes.
